Slovenia & Plecnik Our friends Scott and Mary planned a trip to Slovenia and invited us to join them. They were going on a pilgrimage to see the work of Joze Plecnik, a Slovenian born architect. They were introduced to his work five years ago when they took a trip to Prague. Upon arriving in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, we discovered three books on Plecnik's works. While Scott and Mary had a number of books on him at home and had made a list of buildings they wanted to visit, not one of us had any idea he had done as much work as filled these three volumes. The books are beautifully executed and contained maps to each of his works. We recalculated our trip and began our more extensive pilgrimage. We've created this site as an archive of our nearly 600 photos of our trip. It's organized by day (see the calendar below the map). Each web page contains a day of photos, the route map for that day, and a calendar to link you to other days. There are videos as well and we recommend you download a player that can play mpegs if don't already have one. One that we know works is Windows Media Player. There are a few videos that were taken sideways and I have not yet found an editor that will allow me to edit mpegs from my Sony camera, so we show them to you sideways. When and if we find a way to rotate them we will. All images, maps and calendars are clickable for an enlarged view. We hope you enjoy our trip! |

Map of Slovenia The country of Slovenia is outlined in green. The entire country is about the size of Ohio. We rented a car in Vienna and drove south to Slovenia. Our route is highlighted in blue. You can see where we drove in from Austria in the upper row, second map from the right. Austria borders the entire northern edge of Slovenia. Our entire drive through Slovenia was about 1,200 miles and took 12 days. You can click on any map to enlarge it. |
